Telefónica I+D
Telefónica I+D is the innovation company of the Telefónica Group. Founded in 1988, it contributes to the Group’s competitiveness and modernity through technological innovation. It is the largest private R+D centre in Spain as regards to activity and resources. It currently collaborates with technological leaders and numerous organizations in 42 different countries. Telefónica I+D is a network of centers of technological excellence with five centers in Spain and two in South America, in Brazil and Mexico. In addition to the numerous technical awards it has won since its foundation, the company received the Principe Felipe Award for Business Excellence in 2002.
TID develops projects in four main activity areas: a) Internet, Multimedia and Multi-Languages b) Information Technology Systems c) Networks and Service Platforms and d) End-User Services. TID has developed advanced products and services: Public booths phones (1990), network management systems (1990), data switches (1991), Internet access services (1996), developments for digital homes and connected cars (2000), the prepaid system for mobile phones (1999), interactive a la carte digital television (Imagenio) (2004), new services for television and the new business models on Internet (2006). Some European projects where TID has participated TripCom and the Reservoir project, as well as in local funded projects like the NUBA project.
