Languages in the Contact Zone: An Insight into the Origins of Baltic-Finnic Languages

The Baltic languages are considered to be archaic due to the the similarity of their features to the linguistic ancestor of the modern Indo-European (IE) languages: the Proto-Indo-European language. Lithuanian is thought to be the most conservative off all IE languages spoken today.
The history of the Baltic languages isn’t straightforward; the modern Latvian language has, in some sense, several ancestors, and it is unclear to what degree the Baltic branch is related to the Slavic branch of languages.

Railway Tragedy in Poland: Archaic Infrastructure but an Excellent Emergency Rescue System

Sixteen people have been killed and almost sixty injured in a tragic train accident that took place on Saturday evening in southern Poland. A southbound train on its way from Warsaw to Kraków collided with a train travelling from Przemyśl (near the Ukrainian border) to Warsaw. It is not yet certain what was the cause of the accident, but human error is cited most frequently by the authorities, as one of the trains found itself on the wrong track. The country’s Prime Minister and President both visited the site of the crash.
