RENDER Extensions: MediaWiki

The Idea

Wikis are a popular tool for knowledge management and sharing. But only one point of view on a specific topic can be presented in a Wiki article at a time.

RENDER is therefore developing extensions for the MediaWiki Software that enables to show variations or differing views of certain facts in an article. We build on the popular extension SemanticMediaWiki for achieving this.

Questions, Ideas and Resources

We want YOUR ideas, questions and collaboration for building knowledge-diversity-enabling extensions to MediaWiki! Below you find resources for getting involved as a developer and a forum to discuss your ideas, questions and remarks.

Mind the possibilities

When you are having ideas how to improve MediaWiki, keep in mind the possibilities of the technology developed in RENDER for opinion mining, fact coverage, representation and more. To get an overview, check out the deliverables section.

First Prototype

As a first Prototype, we developed Shortipedia. It is essentially a Wiki functionality that lets users add sourced facts to an article. Opposite to standard Wiki text, two statments on one fact can differ, for example two different opinions about the birthplace of a person, according to two different sources. The facts are expressed as semantic properties and entities, by making use of SemanticMediaWiki.

You can try it out at http://www.shortipedia.org.

Stay tuned, more prototypes and developments are upcoming and will be posted in the news or in the forum.
