RENDER research has made it twice into the “Wikipedia Signpost“:
The first article covers the upcoming event “Wikipedia Academy 2012” and mentions both papers of the Render team that have been accepted there. Read the full article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2012-06-25/Recent_research
The second article presents the work on revert detection where the RENDER project is also working on. Read the full article here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Newsletter/2012-05-28#New_algorithm_provides_better_revert_detection

The RENDER project was presented during the EU project networking session co-located with the 9th Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2012).
As a result of the networking session, points of potential collaboration were identified and RENDER established contact with a number of EU projects:
X-LIKE (Cross-lingual Knowledge Extraction),
ENVISION (ENVIronmental Services Infrastructure with ONtologies),
LOD2 (Creating Knowledge out of Interlinked Data),
ViSTA-TV (Video Stream Analytics for Viewers in the TV Industry),
IKS (Interactive Knowledge Stack).

Check out the Wikipedia Map Interface developed by RENDER! The map is generated out of all geotagged articles in a dozen different language Wikipedias. The dynamic interface allows to zoom into the map and check out the individual articles. The different languages display a strong bias over the different languages.

RENDER is proud that the poster “How to represent Knowledge Diversity” by Andreas Thalhammer, Ioan Toma, Rakebul Hasan, Elena Simperl and Denny Vrandecic has been accepted at the International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC) 2011 in Bonn, Germany.
Abstract:
Information on the Web includes a huge diversity of opinions, viewpoints, sentiments, emotions, and biases. Accordingly, more and more methods, techniques and tools are available to extract these semantics from text. Representation and exchange of diversity-related information can be easily supported by the use of semantic technologies. For this, we introduce the Knowledge Diversity Ontology (KDO).

RENDER Project Kick-Off
http://render-project.eu/2010/10/render-project-kick-off/ http://render-project.eu/2010/10/render-project-kick-off/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2010 07:42:16 +0000

After the official project start on October 1, 2010, the RENDER consortium meets for the first time in Karlsruhe to kick-off an endeavor that will unite excellence in diversity.
Reflecting the knowledge diversity on the Web is the big objective, and to mitigate the project internal diversities at a very early stage, the seven RENDER partners meet from October 27-28 at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) to reflect on the mission, vision and approach of the project, and to discuss the internal management structures and strategies of the consortium. The agenda of the kick-off meeting is completed with a number of tutorials on key technologies, and of course with a first social event in order to overcome the human side of diversity too.
The RENDER consortium is looking forward to working in a challenging and exciting environment for the next three years, and we welcome all our readers to join in and share with us the upcoming experience of uniting in diversity!
